Recharged and Ready! Injured Bentley Returns with Sights Set on 40-Win Milestone

British jockey Harry Bentley, whose previous season was cut short by a left arm injury, is confirmed to make his return on the Shatin Season Opening raceday this Sunday (September 6). Fully recharged after months of recovery, he is both physically and mentally prepared to give it his all in the new season, targeting the 40-win milestone.

Bentley suffered an arm fracture following a fall in June and underwent surgery to insert a metal plate. Fortunately, his rehabilitation went remarkably smoothly, and he resumed trackwork and barrier trials last month, returning to peak form. Reflecting on his injury, Bentley admitted his disappointment at missing the chance to set a new personal record for seasonal wins, but noted that the forced break allowed him to return home and spend quality time with family and friends to recharge.

Since arriving in Hong Kong during the 2020/2021 season, Bentley has accumulated 159 wins. He enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, partnering Helios Express to victory in the G2 Premier Bowl and steering Chill Chibi to win the Hong Kong Classic Cup, ultimately taking home 34 wins. He expressed: “If not for the injury, my target last season was definitely to break 40 wins. That goal remains unchanged for this year, along with snatching more high-level races.”

On opening day, Bentley takes a book of six rides, including reuniting with old partner Helios Express in the HK$4.2 million G3 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup (1200m). Although facing horse-of-the-year Ka Ying Rising from the same stable, Bentley remains confident that Helios Express, carrying a light weight, is well-capable of a top finish. Furthermore, he expressed satisfaction with the condition of another ride, Superb Boy, hoping to kick off the new season with a flying start!
