Four-time Hong Kong Champion Jockey Joao Moreira gave a huge shoutout to Caspar Fownes, after the trainer locked in his fifth championship title just before the Season Finale at Happy Valley on Wednesday (July 15).
Fownes brought the “Magic Man” in on a short-term contract for the final stretch of the season to push for the title. The Brazilian rider, who was based in Hong Kong full-time from 2013 to 2022, definitely delivered. He rode 27 of Fownes’ 69 winners, sealing the championship victory with one meeting left to go at Sha Tin last Sunday (July 12).
Moreira, who has already mentioned he wants to race in Hong Kong again next season, said he was super proud to help Fownes take home the trophy.
