Francis Lui Kin-wai

Francis Lui graduated from The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Apprentice Jockeys’ School to ride 36 winners between 1975 and 1982, and later became an assistant trainer. He received his own licence to train in 1996/97. In recent years, Lui has enjoyed plenty of success with Golden Sixty, the first horse in the history of Hong Kong racing to secure three consecutive Horse of the Year crowns. Lui achieved his career highlight in 2023/24, as he sent out 70 winners to clinch his first trainers’ title, sealing victory over Pierre Ng in the very last race of the season. The now retired Golden Sixty, also added another Group 1 win to his tally by taking a third Hong Kong Mile in 2023/24, enhancing his overall record to 26 wins – 10 at Group 1 level – and three placings from 31 starts with HK$167.17 million in earnings. In 2024, Lui saddled his 900th winner in Hong Kong. He added his second Hong Kong Derby title with Cap Ferrat in 2024/25. His standout stable star prior to Golden Sixty was popular sprinter Lucky Bubbles, who gave the trainer his first Group 1 win in 2017 when he captured the Chairman’s Sprint Prize.
