Eyeing an Unprecedented 21st Consecutive Win! Horse of the Year “Ka Ying Rising” Lines Up for the Season Opener

The 2026/2027 Hong Kong racing season will officially commence on Sunday, 6 September at Sha Tin Racecourse. The undisputed focus of the day falls on the world’s highest-rated sprinter and Hong Kong Horse of the Year, Ka Ying Rising. Trained by David Hayes, this superstar gelding will make a formidable appearance in the season opener’s feature race—the newly upgraded Group 3 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup (1200m)—as he bids to set an astonishing record of 21 consecutive victories.

To prepare for his first run of the new season, Ka Ying Rising recently took part in a 1000m turf barrier trial at Sha Tin on 30 August. Ridden by Champion Jockey Zac Purton, the horse displayed true champion’s flair. Travelling comfortably throughout, he crossed the line first effortlessly, reflecting a swift return to top form following the summer break. Purton was highly satisfied with the horse’s progress, believing he is fully primed for his comeback race.

Looking back at Ka Ying Rising’s illustrious track record, he has remained undefeated since his debut, amassing an incredible 20-race winning streak and successfully breaking the record set by the legendary Silent Witness. In this edition of the Chief Executive’s Cup, although he faces a steep weight-concession challenge—with a rating gap of up to 33 points against rivals such as Copartner Prance—expectations remain incredibly high for him to triumph once again, thanks to his exceptional prowess.

Looking ahead, David Hayes and his team have mapped out a more ambitious overseas campaign for Ka Ying Rising. Following his season-opening run, the horse is slated to travel to Sydney, Australia, to compete in The Everest in October—the world’s richest turf sprint—where he will test his mettle against world-class contenders.

Furthermore, to mark this grand occasion, the Hong Kong Jockey Club will launch an exclusive range of Ka Ying Rising themed merchandise on the season opening day. This will not only inject a vibrant atmosphere into the new season but also allow racing fans to take home a precious piece of racing memorabilia while witnessing the “World’s Best Sprinter” bid for a historic 21st consecutive win.
