Two Group 1 Showdowns in Germany and France — TORNADO ALERT and TRUE LOVE Lead the Charge

The overseas simulcast spotlight falls on Germany and France, with the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin over 2,400 metres at Hoppegarten and the distinctive Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest over Deauville’s 1,300-metre straight course both featuring on the programme.

In S2-4, the Grosser Preis von Berlin, Godolphin is represented by TORNADO ALERT and DUBAI FUTURE. TORNADO ALERT, the higher-rated of the pair, returns from a lengthy absence after winning the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Germany last July. Despite the long layoff, his proven top-level ability ensures he commands respect. The home challenge is headed by this year’s Deutsches Derby winner DARDANOS, who arrives in peak form and now takes on older horses for the first time. TIFFANY has been remarkably consistent at a high level, repeatedly finishing among the placings in major races, while KING OF CONQUEST has already competed against elite performers such as OMBUDSMAN and REBEL’S ROMANCE and could benefit from the switch to Germany.

S3-4, the Prix Maurice de Gheest, is always a fascinating contest because of its unusual 1,300-metre distance. TRUE LOVE, winner of this season’s Group 1 1,000 Guineas, was runner-up over Deauville’s 1,400-metre straight course in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat on her latest start. Dropping back another 100 metres, she remains one of the leading contenders.

TRUE LOVE

The French challenge is headed by STOLEN KISS and SAMANGAN. STOLEN KISS finished a close fourth in Group 1 company at Royal Ascot on her latest appearance, while SAMANGAN overcame a troubled start to finish only around a length behind the winner in the Prix Jean Prat. Former Group 1 winner WISE APPROACH also has the class to play a major role if able to rediscover his best form, adding further intrigue to what promises to be a highly competitive 1,300-metre straight-course battle.
